CONTINENTAL AIRLINES ARENA, MEADOWLANDS, EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY, 13 OCTUBRE 2004 - 7º SHOW
Impresionante fin de gira en New Jersey. El que pronto será derruido pabellón Continental Airlines Arena y que el propio Bruce inauguró en 1981, fue testigo de una noche inolvidable. Patti Scialfa y su banda (donde están presentes Nils Lofgren y Soozie Tyrell) abrieron la velada, presentando su disco "23rd Street Lullaby". Al igual que en la mini-gira de Septiembre, Bruce se unió al escenario con Patti en dos temas: "As Long As I (Can Be With You" (de su primer álbum "Rumble Doll") y "Love (Stand Up)". El siguiente en actuar fue Jackson Browne (que como sabéis tiene residencia en Barcelona). Entre los temas que tocó destacó una versión del tema de Little Steven "I'm A Patriot" y con Bruce sobre escena interpretaron a dúo la conocida "Running On Empty". Tras ello ya se inició el set de Bruce y la E Street Band. Además de John Fogerty, Bruce contó con el apoyo sobre escena del líder de Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, que colaboró en "No Surrender" y "Darkness On The Edge Of Town". También Bruce y la banda se atrevieron a tocar un tema de Pearl Jam, "Betterman". Pero uno de los mejores momentos de todo el tour estaba por llegar. Tras la actuación de Bruce con Fogerty, una enorme y sensacional versión de "Racing In The Street", acompañada por Jackson Browne, resonó por las paredes del pabellón de los Nets y los Jersey Devils. En 1992 tuve la ocasión de escuchar este tema en este mismo lugar y todavía tengo escalofríos sólo de pensarlo. El bis se abrió, no con un tema con Fogerty, ¡sino con tres!: "Proud Mary", "Bad Moon Rising" y "Travelin' Band". Tras ello, los dos temas habituales con todos sobre escena concluyeron la gira por el cambio. Ahora, habrá que esperar al 2 de Noviembre para saber si todo este esfuerzo de Bruce y resto de artistas ha valido la pena. Esperemos que si. A buen seguro si Kerry gana, Bruce se sentirá satisfecho de lo que ha hecho, le entrarán más ganas e inspiración para grabar el nuevo disco e irse de gira... Crucemos dedos.

    ¿Bruce tiene 55 años?


    MCI CENTER, WASHINGTON, DISTRITO DE COLUMBIA, 11 OCTUBRE 2004 - 6º SHOW
    Tremenda noche de rock en Washington. Cinco horas con la mayoría de los principales artistas del "Vote For Change Artist Tour". Dada la presencia de tantos artistas sobre escena, el set de Bruce se recortó mucho, así como los temas que tocaba normalmente con John Fogerty. El primero de actuar fue John Mellencamp, que interpretó cinco temas. REM, además de Bruce en "Man On The Moon", también contó con el lider de Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, cantando en el tema "Begin The Begin". Luego, los propios Pearl Jam hicieron una fabulosa actuación que culminó con un dúo de Vedder con el actor Tim Robbins en una versión de "Masters Of War". Los grandes y viejos amigos de Bruce, Jackson Browne y Bonnie Raitt, se sumaron al show interpretando una versión del tema de Little Steven "I'm A Patriot", aunque sin Steve sobre escena. Tras ellos actuaron Babyface, Jurassic Five, las Dixie Chicks, James Taylor y Dave Matthews. Luego vino el corto repertorio de Bruce y la E Street Band. Como sabéis, el show fue retransmitido en directo por varias emisoras de radio y por internet a través de Real Player y también por la cadena de televisión Sundance, que es propiedad del actor Robert Redford, que también participó en el acto haciendo la presentación inicial.

    TD WATERHOUSE, ORLANDO, FLORIDA, 8 OCTUBRE 2004 - 5º SHOW
    Quinto show en Florida. En esta ocasión no estuvieron los Bright Eyes, aunque si una nueva invitada se sumó al show: Tracy Chapman (que como recordaréis participó en la gira de Amnistía Internacional de 1988). En el set de REM, Nils Lofgren acompaña a la guitarra en el tema "Country Feedback" y Bruce tocó con el grupo liderado por Michael Stipe en "Permanent Vacation" y "Man On The Moon". El set propio de Bruce nos dejó el debut en este tour de "Prove It All Night" y "My Hometown" (cantada a dúo con Tracy Chapman). El bis se inició con "Bad Moon Rising" con Fogerty. Bruce agradeció a todos los artistas que habían participado en estos conciertos, diciendo que pensó que sería un placer tocar con ellos y finalmente ha sido maravilloso.

    "El concierto de Orlando fue una caña. Bruce paró el concierto y se sentó en frente de la peña a cambiarse la bota. REM una caña y Tracy Chapman estuvo tremenda con Bruce en My Hometown. Repertorio de Bruce sin muchas sorpresas, pero este tío no tiene 55 años. Clarence sublime y Nils y Fogerty para babear... Vamos, puro rock & roll. Un 10."

    "VOTE FOR CHANGE ARTIST TOUR" GIRA USA OCTUBRE 2004
    EL CONCIERTO DE WASHINGTON 11 OCTUBRE SERÁ RADIADO EN DIRECTO
    El que hasta hace poco debía ser el show que cerraría la "Vote For Change Artist Tour" en Washington podrá escucharse en directo por radio en Estados Unidos. Este concierto será atípico ya que contará con todos los artistas del tour, con lo cual se supone será más largo y con muchas más sorpresas sobre el escenario. La emisión se iniciará a las 7 de la tarde costa este americana, la 1 de la madrugada en España, ya del martes 12 de Octubre. Se podrá seguir a través de la emisora XM Satellite Radio, pero esta emisora es de pago y hay que suscribirse previamente.

    ULTIMA HORA: PODRIA HABER SEGUNDO CONCIERTO EN MEADOWLANDS, NEW JERSEY!!
    XCEL ENERGY CENTER, ST.PAUL, MINNESOTA, 5 OCTUBRE 2004 - 4º SHOW
    Invitado de excepción en St.Paul: el canadiense Neil Young. Participó en varios momentos del show, primero con REM en el tema "Country Feedback" y después en el set de Bruce, éste le presentó preguntando "Hay algún canadiense pro-Kerry en la casa? Creo haber visto uno antes por aquí..." Neil colaboró en "Souls Of The Departed" y en los clásicos "All Along The Watchtower" y "Rockin' In The Free World" (esta en el bis con también Pegi Young (la esposa de Neil), los REM y Fogerty). Este es el primer show con cuatro temas en el bis. Volvieron al set de Bruce "Lonesome Day" y "The River" y en el primer bis "Proud Mary" con John Fogerty. En el próximo show de Orlando no estarán presentes los Bright Eyes. Al final del show, el propio Bruce le regaló una chaqueta conmemorativa del tour al cantante del grupo, Conor Oberst.

    Seguro que recordáis a las Dixie Chicks, el grupo de chicas country que Bush quizo boicotear por declarar que estaban en contra de la guerra de Irak. Bruce luego las apoyó incluyendo su primer "mensaje" político en su propia web. Pues bien, tras concluir su actuación en el Fox Theatre de la misma Detroit se desplazaron rapidamente al Cobo Arena y compartieron escenario con Bruce y la E Street Band, REM, John Fogerty y Bright Eyes en el bis final en "People Get The Power". Del resto del show, destacó la interpretación de "The Ties That Bind" en lugar de "Lonesome Day" y "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" en sustitución de "The River". Para abrir el bis, en esta ocasión Bruce y John Fogerty eligieron "Travelin' Band".

    Segundo concierto por el cambio. De nuevo un concierto trepidante. Ligeros cambios en el repertorio de Bruce. "The River" sustituye a "Lost In The Flood" y en el bis "Bad Moon Rising" reemplaza a "Proud Mary" en el dúo con John Fogerty. Bruce colabora en esta ocasión en dos temas junto a REM: "Bad Day" y en "Man On The Moon". El repertorio de REM se alargó un poco más que en Philadelphia, con otros temas como "Cuyahoga", "Life And How To Live It" y "Imitation Of Life". Próxima parada Detroit. En otro orden de cosas, hoy se han puesto a la venta las entradas para los shows benéficos "Light Of Day" que se celebrarán en el Stone Pony el fin de semana del 5, 6 y 7 de Noviembre.

    WACHOVIA CENTER, PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, 1 OCTUBRE 2004 - 1º SHOW
    "No BRUUUUUCING! Bajaré y le daré una bofetada. Tenemos muchísima buena música esta noche". Así se dirigió Bruce al público de Philadelphia dando por iniciada la "Vote For Change Tour". Un primer concierto donde la música fue la auténtica protagonista y los discursos políticos pasaron a un segundo plano. Bruce se limitó a decir que estos conciertos eran en lucha por un gobierno abierto, racional y humano y con visión de futuro. "¡Y lo haremos a ritmo de Rock!". Bruce al mismo tiempo fue el encargado de presentar a las bandas que compartían el escenario del abarrotado Wachovia Center. De Bright Eyes -que actuaron los primeros, sobre las 8 de la tarde- dijo que le dejaron boquiabierto cuando salió a la venta su disco. Media hora más tarde presentó a REM diciendo que han sido fuente de inspiración durante 20 años. REM tocaron una hora y el último tema "Man On The Moon" contó con Bruce sobre el escenario, cantando a dúo con el cantante y líder de REM, Michael Stipe. A las 10 se inició el set propiamente dicho de Bruce y la E Street Band, pero Bruce atacó una versión acústica del himno americano "The Star-Splanged Banner" con su guitarra de 12 cuerdas para posteriormente empalmar -como solía hacer otras giras, pero con el himno interpretado al completo- con una brutal y potente "Born In The U.S.A." que a pesar de no haber sido ensayada en Asbury Park, todo hacía pensar que sería un tema imprescindible en este tour "por el cambio". 20 años después, "Born In The U.S.A." vuelve a tomar protagonismo. Siguieron "Badlands", "No Surrender", "Lonesome Day" (las tres al estilo del último tour), la escalofriante "Lost In The Flood", la nueva versión ya presentada en los shows del Shea Stadium de "Johnny 99", al más puro estilo country y la recuperada y potentísima "Youngstown". A partir de aquí salió al escenario John Fogerty y junto a Bruce y la E Street Band interpretó tres temas: "Centerfield", "Déjà Vy All Over Again", "Fortunate Son" y participó en "The Promised Land". Bruce y la banda atacaron "The Rising" antes de que Michael Stipe volvieron a escena para cantar a dúo con Bruce "Because The Night". Tras "Mary's Place" (donde Bruce dijo "We remain a land of great promise, but we need to move America toward the fulfillment of that promise", siguió "Born To Run" con Stipe y el guitarrista Peter Buck de los REM. Un corto descanso y tres temas para concluir el show: "Proud Mary" con John Fogerty y "What's So Funny About (Peace, Love And Understanding)" y "People Got The Power" con todos sobre el escenario.
    En otro de los conciertos del "Vote For Change Tour", concretamente en la cercana Reading (Pennsylvania), el cantante de Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder, interpretó una versión acústica de "Growin' Up", como suele hacer últimamente en sus recitales.

    Tercer y último día de ensayos en el Convention Hall de Asbury Park. El boardwalk de Asbury Park ha tenido un invitado de excepción: John Fogerty, que se ha unido a los "rehearsals" a Bruce y la banda. Seguramente pues los temas que John Fogerty cante en el tour tengan a la E Street Band como banda y el propio Bruce acompañe a John con voz y guitarra.

    CONVENTION HALL, ASBURY PARK, NEW JERSEY, 28 SEPTIEMBRE 2004 - 2º ENSAYO
    Segundo ensayo en el Convention Hall de Asbury Park. Estos ensayos transcurren por la mañana, en esta ocasión de 9 de la mañana a 1 del mediodía. Entre las sorpresas de este segundo "rehearsal" destacamos la interpretación de "Devils & Dust", un tema que ya ensayaron en algunos conciertos de la The Rising Tour pero que finalmente no llegó a debutar. Este tema habla de Irak en cuanto a intereses económicos y políticos. Otros temas que ensayaron fueron "Johnny 99", "Because The Night" y la extrañísima "Held Up Without A Gun" (interpretada en directo una sola vez en el show de fin de año de Nassau 1980 y que se publicó como cara B del single "Hungry Heart" y también en el recopilatorio "The Essential"). Además del cover "What's So Funny About) Peace, Love And Understanding" también han ensayado el tema de Patti Smith "People Get The Power". De los temas ensayados hasta ahora parece bastante claro el posible inicio de los conciertos con "Devils & Dust" (parece el nuevo tema emblema del tour), "Badlands", "No Surrender" y "Lonesome Day". También parecen fijas "Lost In The Flood" (sería increíble), "Youngstown", "The Rising" y "Mary's Place" del último disco y algún que otro tema del "Essential" (como ocurrió en los shows navideños del año pasado). Así podrían sonar quizá también "From Small Things" o "None But The Brave". Versiones como el "Chimes Of Freedom" de Dylan o "People Got The Power" de Patti Smith también podrían estar presentes, junto a "What's So Funny About (Peace, Love And Understanding)" escrita por Nick Lowe y que luego popularizó Elvis Costello.

    Tras el fin de gira de Patti Scialfa, Bruce reune toda la E Street Band al completo en el mítico Convention Hall de Asbury Park para ensayar con vistas a la inminente gira "Vote for Change" que se inicia este viernes 1 de Octubre en Philadelphia. No se conoce el contenido completo de las varias horas de ensayo, aunque se mezclan clásicos de siempre con canciones "mensaje" y alguna cover.
